Upcoming events in NYC June and July 2012

Here are some upcoming events that singles in NYC of all interests will enjoy for something to do on the weekend, or for a great second date idea after your MiniDate.

43rd Annual LGBT Pride March—The streets of New York City are never so festive, outrageous and energized as they are during the annual LGBT Pride March. Outlandish floats and spontaneous dance parties blend perfectly with the political components of this 43-year-old civil rights march. The March begins in Midtown at Fifth Avenue and 36th Street at noon, and ends in the West Village. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit nycpride.org.

Sunday Night Live Comedy Show—CB’s Comedy Club presents Sunday Night Live, an evening of hilarious stand-up comedy hosted by New York’s Prince of Comedy, comedian Jamie Roberts. Since August 2008, Sundays in the city of New York has never been the same. Located in the historic West Village Manhattan, Sunday Night Live has become the most talked about show to see on the weekends. Buy tickets here: http://www.nyc.com/events/sunday_night_live_comedy_show.1051223/editorial_review.aspx.

Summer on the Hudson: Let’s Dance Lessons—Learn to dance like a pro at these salsa, cha-cha and bachata lessons. For more information visit this website http://www.nycgovparks.org/events/2012/06/03/summer-on-the-hudson-lets-dance-lessons.

92y Jazz in July—New York City is arguably the jazz capital of the world, and this festival highlights some of our musical metropolis’ finest contributions to the genre. Highlights of the 2012 festival include: a rare New York appearance by Ernie Andrews and Freddy Cole in an evening of song; a celebration of Richard Rodgers; and the Count Basie Orchestra with special guest Bucky Pizzarelli.  For details, including a full schedule, visit 92y.org.

4 Knots Festival—After a decade of presenting the Siren Music Festival at Coney Island, The Village Voice moves its indie bonanza to another waterfront location. The lineup is still TBA, but rest assured: There Will Be Buzz Bands. For more information, visit villagevoice.com.

Alice Aycock: Drawings—The first major survey of works on paper by leading American sculptor Alice Aycock who is best known for her room-scale installations and massive outdoor sculptural works that span the divide between art, architecture, and science.  Providing a window into her creative process, these studies on paper illustrate the fundamentals of her imaginative thinking in developing three-dimensional works.  For complete information visit nyu.edu/greyart.

Singles Night at MoMA—Singles mixers are kind of a weird concept—does anyone actually enjoy making small talk with complete strangers? But we’re pretty sure that you’ll find plenty to discuss with other unattached folks at the Museum of Modern Art on Friday 22. NYC art collective Grand Openings will host a special Singles Night (Fri 22 6–8pm; free with required R.S.V.P.), featuring artist collaborations and interactive games. The shindig is open to 100 singles; reserve a spot by e-mailing media1@moma.org. And if you miss out on this Friday’s party, another one will be held on July 29.

Museum of the Moving Image—Men In Black 3—Ever wonder what it takes to create the aliens, futuristic weapons, vehicles and outfits in science fiction movies? Find out at this exhibition, which features alien masks, a “monocycle,” “neuralyzers” and more, all reimagined in the style of the late 1960s, when part of the new Men in Black 3 is set. In all, more than 25 objects from the movie are on display. For more information, visit movingimage.us.

Beer Here: Brewing New York’s History—Explore Gotham’s boozy past in this exhibit, which traces local beer production and consumption over the past several centuries. You’ll learn about New Amsterdam’s first tavern, established by the Dutch West India Company in 1640 to 1644, as well as how beer served as a vital source of nourishment to colonial residents. When you’ve absorbed your fill of local hops history, down a cold one in the beer hall at the end of the exhibit. Get tickets and more info here: http://www.timeout.com/newyork/events/beer-here-brewing-new-yorks-history.
