During the I <3 NY Dating Event last month, which MiniDates organized and sponsored, the panelists discussed the ways they use social integration and promotion. Here are a few of the highlights from the discussion.
-OkCupid does not invest effort in integrating with or promoting themselves on social media sites. They are growing 55% annually without these efforts. Referral traffic from Facebook is 4% of 12% of referral traffic. The majority of OkCupid’s traffic is direct or search traffic.
-AreYouInterested is deeply integrated with Facebook, so the experience without connecting to Facebook will not be very valuable. This dating site is leveraging interests listed on Facebook to improve the dating experience.
-MiniDates plans to support Facebook integration by its next release. Some of the ways the service plans to do this is by using Facebook data to auto fill profiles. MiniDates also plans to leverage social by utilizing venue check-ins and enabling sharing of date details before going on dates for added safety.
-Smeet allows signup through Facebook and uses Facebook to remind users to return and to increase users through sharing.
-MeetMoi is exploring how to leverage how people want to share about their offline activity, such as the dates they’ve gone on through MeetMoi.
-Nerve is holding off on utilizing Facebook for now until they can decide how Facebook would best fit into their model.
